He is a highly skilled teacher with extensive experience as a choral animateur, clinician, workshop leader, conductor, and arranger. He regularly conducts children's choirs and organises large-scale singing events with young people. The wealth of eclectic material in the Voiceworks series, and the useful teaching notes have made the series a significant contributor to the recent revival of singing and the development of confident singing leaders in the UK. Worth a read!

An academically substantial, and yet non-boring set of essays looking at how euphemisms pervade and characterize every aspect of human life. There are some true gems in here. Most of it is delightful to read and you get the sense that, while the authors are at the top of their game, they are stretching back a bit on the easy chair and having some fun. It's quite well written. Which is good, because the last thing you want is a book about language which is, well, poorly written and shows no mastery of language.

Jim Leitzel is the Director of Public Policy Studies in the College at the University of Chicago, where he has taught public policy and economics since 1998. He received his PhD in economics from Duke University; he has taught at Vanderbilt University, Duke University, the New Economic School in Moscow, and the International School of Economics at Tbilisi State University. Jim's research has concerned areas such as transition economics, gun control, and law and economics.

About the Author

Mack Wilberg is the Music Director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He was appointed Music Director in March 2008, having served as Associate Music Director since May 1999. He is a former professor of music at Brigham Young University, where he received his bachelors degree; his masters and doctoral degrees are from the University of Southern California. In addition to his conducting responsibilities he is active as apianist, choral clinician, composer, arranger, and guest conductor throughout the United States and abroad. In addition to the many compositions he has written for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, his works have been performed by artists such as Renee Fleming, Frederica von Stade, Bryn Terfel, The Kings Singers, and narrators Walter Cronkite and Claire Bloom. Wilbergs arrangements and compositions are performed and recorded all over the world. With their grandeur, energy, and craftsmanship, they inspire performers and audiences everywhere.

Kroncke reveals how the under-appreciated, but central role of Sino-American relations in this decline over two centuries, significantly reshaped in the early 20th century as American lawyer-missionaries helped inspire the first modern projects of American humanitarian internationalism through legal development. Often forgotten today after the rise of the Chinese Communist Party in 1949, the Sino-American relationship in the early 20th century was a key crucible for articulating this vision as Americans first imagined waves of Americanization abroad in the wake of China's 1911 Republican revolution.

Drawing in historical threads from religious, legal and foreign policy work, the book demonstrates how American comparative law ultimately became a marginalized practice in this process. The marginalization belies its central place in earlier eras of American political and legal reform. In doing so, the book reveals how the cosmopolitan dynamism so prevalent at the Founding is a lost virtue that today comprises a serious challenge to American legal culture and its capacity for legal innovation in the face of an increasingly competitive and multi-polar 21st century. Once again, America's relationship with China presents a critical opportunity to recapture this lost virtue and stimulate the searching cosmopolitanism that helped forge the original foundations of American democracy.

Stig Jarle Hansen is an associate professor at the University of Life Sciences in Oslo where he teaches Norway's only MA in International Relations. He speaks Somali, Swahili and Arabic.
